Erling Matz, short film from Simon Morice

Erling Matz

Synopsis

A friend of mine wanted to sail his boat to France and needed a navigator, I had the skills, the time, and a love being at sea. So, on a hot 2011 summer's day, in St Malo, I met Erling Matz, who was living on his boat Elisa. He's a journalist and writer so there was lots to talk about, but the yacht club bar closed at 5, so after a long afternoon drinking Pelforth beer we went back to raid his drinks locker. He is a great storyteller and pretty soon I got him to agree to let me film him with my iPhone.Half an hour later I had shot and edited this film, all on the iPhone, and uploaded it to YouTube. I am not submitting this film as a great piece of documentary, but simply to remind myself never to be without a mic and my iPhone - ever. The best camera in the world is the one you have with you when opportunity knocks.
