Synopsis
Marigolds explores what goes on behind 'closed doors' of a seemingly normal family, living in a sleepy village. It exposes the fragile state of a 25-year lifeless and dull marriage, and in particular, the effect this has had on the state of mind of the mother.Susannah is living a typically quiet and dusty life in the suburbs with her husband Paul, when an unexpected visit from her son, Piers, surfaces a dark secret that has been brewing since he left the nest 15 years ago. As Susannah struggles to come to terms with Piers' relationship with his new girlfriend, her typical mediocre existence is slowly stripped away to reveal an obsession that is anything but typical... or secret.Marigolds was filmed on the RED camera by DOP, Mikolaj Jaroszewicz , who was the cinematographer on the Oscar-winning animated short in 2008, Peter and the Wolf. It was filmed on location in Worcestershire, UK and stars Jane Guernier, a West End and TV regular, along with Alex Childs (recently featured on Lynda La Plante's Above Suspicion: The Red Dahlia), Alastair Southey (Holby City, Doctors) and Gordon Mounsey. It was also edited by BBC veteran editor Andrew Evans (recent projects include BBC's Gypsy Child Thieves and BBC2's recent Obama series) and all post-production sound was done in kind by the Pinewood Media Centre with Thom Berryman and Andy Caller (Batman Begins, Nine, Harry Brown). Toyah Willcox's new single 'Quicksilver' was also kindly donated to the project, with the music for Marigolds being composed by Moritz Schmittat.
